Hi, I’m Russell. Moore Than Fitness was built to offer a comfortable, inclusive, and safe space for people who feel out of place in a conventional gym. If you feel like you have no idea what to do, I want to teach you. People from all walks of life are welcome.

No matter your body type, you are welcome here. If you’ve ever felt like you didn’t belong or didn’t feel confident in a gym, for whatever reason, I want to help you change that. Traditionally, gyms are intimidating, anxiety-provoking environments for those new to the fitness space. They are a place where men are supposed to act like men, and women unfortunately get leered at. I want to offer an alternative.

We’re all susceptible to body image issues and ideas of inadequacy. You know, those icky creeping thoughts that make you wonder why you don’t look like that Instagram model. Or that tells you that gyms are only for fit people.

At Moore Than Fitness, my goal as your Personal Trainer is to help nurture your fitness path and guide you towards your goals, while empowering you with the knowledge you need to know ‘how to fitness’ for the rest of your life . I will always be in your corner, no matter your starting place or any speed bumps you encounter along the way.

I believe that fitness needs to come not from a fear of failure, but rather a place of growth towards what is possible.

I’m disruptive by nature.

I’m a ginger woman of the south who cooks with butter, believes in the art of putzing around, and is deeply familiar with being too much, too fiery, too big.

…the other side of the “I’m not enough” coin that so many of us get handed in this lifetime.

I grew up playing the roles I was shown: girl, woman, wife, daughter, mother. Nice, confused, and right.

Small. In body and power.

Like a switch in the midst of a break up in my early 20s, that voice came in like a sword in defense of my life and said, “This ain’t it. It can be better. Go for it.” I went for it and yes, I’ve looked back many times, but I wouldn’t turn around for anything.

I’ve listened to her ever since. Over the years her voice has gotten louder and I understand her more. She’s wise, she’s firm, and she’s fiercely kind.

I opened my first gym in Nashville, TN in 2014. It was the gym I needed. I signed all our emails, “I’m glad you’re here no matter how you’re here.” We believed all bodies are good bodies just the way they are. I learned to be in a relationship with mine just as she is. That gym disrupted fitness as it currently existed. She was living proof that it could be better. 

I started co-leading Heartfelt retreats in 2016. They disrupted our circle’s idea that having a self study practice should be fueled by “you’re not enough and this will fix you” or “you’re too much… here’s how to be less.” The retreats grew, evolved, and impacted us all in ways we never saw coming. Because they show you how to be who you are, and that who you are, is incredibly good.

I sold my gym in 2021 to Jess Thompson who’s grown and evolved the physical space into the Radical Wellness Collective.

In 2023 after a big move back to my home town of Richmond, VA (and some huge personal shifts), looking for a place to be “just a trainer” again, I walked into the doors of Moore Than Fitness before they were open to the public and the second that I saw that Russell Moore, the owner, also a ginger, and also a Moore, had hand painted all the dumbbells in rainbow colors, I knew it was my new gym home. I’m proud to call myself a partner in Moore Than Fitness as of 2025.

Through the Self Study Program, the Duality of Harm and Healing in Fitness, Yoga, and Wellness a training and limited series podcast, and through my work as a Personal Trainer at Moore Than Fitness in Richmond, VA, I’m here to help trainers, coaches, and clients alike, become more fully who they are. I help people bridge the gap between who you want to be, and how you actually show up, by showing you just how worthy of it all you actually are.

My goal as your Personal Trainer is to help you find the joy in movement.

When I first started my own fitness journey, I certainly didn’t think I belonged at the gym. There were so many negative feelings I had around working out, and it would always circle back to not feeling good about myself. Having the right Personal Trainer changed my outlook on this completely, and I started showing up differently to my workout sessions. I was given the opportunity to prove myself wrong when it came to the self-limiting beliefs and prescriptions I had of myself.

I learned that I actually DO belong in the gym, and not just to work out, but also as a Personal Trainer – I want to take the joy that training has given me and share it with you!

I understand how overwhelming or scary it can feel to step into a gym for the first time. I understand how life can be crazy and make reaching your fitness goals feel really hard. I also understand the importance of having a great trainer by your side to support you throughout your journey, and I want to be that for you! I promise you that you can do hard things, and you’ll be so amazed by what you can do.

I love working with everybody, but I especially love working with folks who feel brand new to the gym and want to feel a little more at home in the space. My approach to fitness centers around YOU, so we will always work together to move you towards your goals.

Arryn Grogan

Hey there! I’m Arryn, and I use he/him pronouns.

A few of my favorite things are dunking chocolate chip cookies in milk (and eating them too!), training in some sort of martial art, cooking with music blasting, using my handyperson skills, and drinking fancy coffee with my pinky out whilst reading a book. Oh yeah, I also love to nerd out on strength training stuff!

I grew up a scrawny, video-gaming boy in Central Florida. I wasn’t athletic and only played sports my parents forced me to. In 2011, in my early 20s, I started training in martial arts (Jeet Kune Do & Filipino Martial Arts), and it was through that that I developed a strength training practice a year later. I started lifting weights in my garage with just a 16-kilo kettlebell and an instructional book. In 2015, after taking a kettlebell instructor certification, I began to coach others, working at a gym with folks in a 1:1 and (large) group-class setting.

These days, my life and business partner, Holly, and I continue to grow our coaching and entrepreneurial skills through our online coaching business that we started in 2018, Lift with Holly and Arryn. When we started, we primarily coached other coaches who were working towards the same certifications/achievements we had. Though we still work with many coaches today, we have expanded our training style to include everyday fitness enthusiasts who use strength training to complement their sport and everyday life. In September 2023, we took our online business on the road (in the air and across the water too!), becoming digital nomads as we circumnavigated the globe, staying in nine countries along the way.

Despite having an online training biz, I still really enjoy working with people in person. In my years as a trainer, I’ve worked with newbies, seniors, athletes (mostly BJJ), queer folx, along with experienced strength athletes and other coaches. I coach folks who are serious about exercising but don’t take themselves too seriously. My goal is to help you do it in a playful, balanced way that honors your humanity, first and foremost.

Hi, I’m Kalena Sills!

I have had a life-long love affair with moving my body, however I never really thought of myself as a “fitness” person.

This all changed in 2023 when two things happened simultaneously for me:

Thing 1: I discovered a deep love of weightlifting both as cross-training for my performance art, and pain management for my hyper mobility.

Thing 2: I was laid off from my long-time corporate office job.
As I scrambled to figure out how to navigate this sudden uncertainty, it occurred to me that what I am passionate about is helping people move, and move well, and personal training seemed like an excellent way to support myself while doing so.

My trajectory to this career has been so roundabout and off the beaten path, that my perspectives are often quite different from your average Personal Trainer. I am coming to personal training from a performing art world that is also an extreme sport, having been a pole dance instructor for the last 6 years. This means I have a lot of experience guiding folks through things that truly feel impossible and helping them discover just how possible it can be when you take the necessary baby steps.

I have been through numerous teacher trainings aimed at coaching all types of bodies through some pretty wild skills while holding space for the intense feelings that come up when we are present in our bodies and trying something new.
I strive, first and foremost, to live up to the title of Movement Educator.

While I care deeply about proper form, the science of biomechanics and safety, I am also passionate about Play and I strive to bring moments of embodied silliness into the practice of fitness. I focus a lot on mobility and stability, my passion lies in functional movement and navigating the world with as much ease as possible. I approach each person with radical empathy, I will meet you where you are each day and ask your body for its greatest safest effort. I believe that there is no reason we can’t try hard and have fun at the same time!

When I am not working out, performing, or training clients, you can find me trying to pursue way too many interests in way too little time!
Roller-skating, printmaking, rock-climbing, just to name a few!
To relax I can be found reading sci-fi/fantasy books or playing video games with my spouse while surrounded by our pets.
